Review Policy

Hello and welcome to Book Recs by Jess!

I am currently available to read and review books including ARCs. I am also open to PR boxes, gifted books, and collaborations.

Please read through the guidelines below to see if we would be a good fit.

My Reading Preferences

If you take a look at my Goodreads, The StoryGraph, Instagram, or blog, you will get a sense of what types of books I love the most.

Age Preferences

I enjoying reading mostly adult and young adult books. I don’t hate middle grade or kids books, but I am not looking to review any books in those age categories.

Favorite Genres

  • Romance
  • Historical Fiction
  • Fantasy
  • Young Adult

Favorite Tropes

  • Fake Dating
  • Only One Bed
  • Friends to Lovers
  • Sports Romances
  • Marriage of Convenience

Formats

While audiobooks are my current go-to format, I also read ebooks and physical books as well.

If you choose to send an ebook, it must be compatible with a kindle.

Content

I prefer closed door romances but will read books with some explicit content. If the book is mostly smut, I will not read it. I also often skip over sexually explicit scenes in books.

  • examples of books that are too explicit for me: Throttled by Lauren Asher; Beloved by Corinne Michaels; & First Down by Grace Reilly

Violence to a certain degree is fine, but I don’t enjoy stories with a lot of graphic content

  • example of a book I DNF for being too graphic (sexually & violence-wise): A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen

If your book contains Christian elements throughout the story, that is an added bonus to me!

My Reviews Include…

You can expect my reviews to include a star rating out of 5 as well as a spice level rating.

As I want to be honest with my readers, all of my reviews are my exact thoughts. If I end up not liking a book, I will respectfully tell my readers why I gave the book a lower rating.

Places I share my reviews:

If I give a book less than 4 stars, I don’t typically share a review on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Instagram. I can if you want me to, but I don’t want to hurt your chances of selling your book.

Your Review Request Should Include…

If you’ve read through my guidelines and want to send me a book, please include the following items:

  1. Book summary (please no major spoilers)
  2. Release date (it’s okay to send me books that have already been released)
  3. Explanation as to why your book would be a good fit (e.g. I think you would like it because you like such and such book or genre)
  4. Time frame in which you expect a review (if it’s less than a month, it’s likely that I won’t accept it)
  5. Your expectations (where you want the book reviewed and what I should do if I DNF the book or give it a lower rating)
  6. Format (what format the book will be sent)

If you wish to send me a physical book, PR box, etc., please email me for my address.
