Welcome to Book Recs by Jess. If you are an author or publisher wanting me to review a book, please read through the following guidelines before sending me a request. I love reading and reviewing books, but I only like to read books that are a good fit with me.
Since I only have so much time and way too many books on my TBR, I am somewhat picky with what books I will review. I will try to respond to all requests, but I may decline if it doesn’t meet my criteria or if I just don’t have enough time.
Things I am NOT accepting
While I occasionally read nonfiction books, they are not my preferred genre. I’m pretty picky about what nonfiction books I read, so I am not accepting any at this point in time.
Books with a lot of graphic content
As a Christian, I do not like to read books with a ton of mature content. I can deal with the occasional sex scene, but if the whole book is smut, I’m not going to read it. Besides sexual content, I also won’t read a book that’s super gory (sorry, I can’t deal with tons of blood!)
Horror or Thrillers
I don’t like scary movies, and I don’t like scary books. I just can’t deal with reading books that will keep me awake at night.
My Reading Preferences
If you take a look at my Goodreads, The StoryGraph, Instagram, or blog, you will get a sense of what types of books I love the most.
I enjoying reading mostly adult and young adult books. I don’t hate middle grade or kids books, but I am not looking to review any books in those age categories.
- Science Fiction
I occasionally will read historical fiction, but I tend not to gravitate towards it.
- Fake dating
- Only one bed
- Friends to lovers
My favorite format is physical copies of books, but I also love audiobooks.
I do occasionally read eBooks, but I get a lot of headaches and won’t read eBooks if I have a headache.
My Reviews Include…
You can expect my reviews to include a star rating out of 5 as well as my thoughts on characters, plot, writing style, formatting elements, and reread potential. If the book has romantic content, I will also include a spice rating so that readers know what to expect.
I like to post my reviews on Goodreads, The StoryGraph, here on my blog, and on Instagram. If you would like my review posted on Amazon, I can do that as well.
As I want to be honest with my readers, all of my reviews are my exact thoughts. If I end up not liking a book, I will respectfully tell my readers why I gave the book a lower rating.
Your Review Request Should Include…
If you’ve read through my guidelines and want to send me a review request, please include the following items:
- Book summary (please no major spoilers)
- Release date (it’s okay to send me books that have already been released)
- Explanation as to why your book would be a good fit (e.g. I think you would like it because you like such and such book or genre)
- Time frame in which you expect a review (if it’s less than a month, it’s likely that I won’t accept it)
Please send requests to email@example.com
