2022 Book Journal Set Up
For my 2022 book journal, I created a few spreads to complete throughout the year. These reading journal pages are for me to keep track of my yearly reading goals and challenges I want to complete for 2022.
Feel free to use these pages as inspiration, but please credit me if you copy any of these designs.

2022 Reading Goals
In both my 2021 and 2022 book journals, I chose to set 10 reading goals for the whole year.
Goals 1-6
All ten goals do not fit within the two pages in this spread, so the other four goals are on the next page.
My first goal is to read 100 books. At the end of each month, I will write in how many books I read and total them up at the end of the year.
Goal two is to reread 10 of the books that I have read in the past. I usually reread a few of my favorite books and then see if I like them as much as I did in the past. For this spread, I will use the check boxes and write the titles of the books I reread.
Since Colleen Hoover is my current favorite author, I decided that I wanted to read more of her books. I chose to try and read 5 of her books that I haven’t read yet for goal three.
Over the past couple years, I have acquired a lot of physical books, so I want to try and read more of the books that I already own instead of buying so many new ones. Similar to my first goal, I will write down how many of the books I read each month are from my physical TBR (to be read) for my fourth goal.
I have a habit of gravitating towards the same genres over and over again, so for my fifth goal I want to read four historical fiction books this year. It doesn’t seem like very many, but a lot of the historical fiction books that I want to read are really sad. I have to be in the mood to read a depressing book, so I don’t read them very often.
Leigh Bardugo is a very popular author that has quite a few books that I want to read, yet I haven’t read any of them yet. For my sixth goal, I want to read at least one of her books this year.
Goals 7-10 & Ten on My TBR
These are the other goals that would not fit on the previous two pages. The other page is another challenge I started in my 2021 journal.
My seventh goal is to read three nonfiction books. Last year, I only read two, but I want to make a little more effort to read more of them (especially since I have quite a few on my physical TBR).
Similarly to my goal to read a Leigh Bardugo book, I want to read a book by Kristin Hannah. I have three books by her on my physical TBR, but I have yet to read one of them. I’m not sure which one to start with, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to comment down below. I currently own The Nightingale, The Great Alone, & The Four Winds.
I have a few series that I started last year, but I didn’t end up having time to finish them. So for my ninth goal, I would like to finish at least one series that I started in 2021. This could be the rest of The Arc of the Scythe, A Court of Thorns and Roses series, or a lot of Cassandra Clare’s books.
For my final goal, I want to unhaul 20 books. I have way too many books that I don’t have room for, so I would love to be able to downsize my collection a bit. I try to only keep books that I plan to read or reread. If I’ve already read a book and can’t see myself rereading it, then I will either sell it or donate it.
Ten on My TBR
Ten on my TBR is a challenge where I try to read 10 books that I’ve had for a while or that I just really want to get to this year. Last year, I did not read many of them, so I am hoping to get to more of them this year.
If you are on The StoryGraph, I have created this challenge on there as well. Feel free to join the challenge and follow along. You can find it here.
The ten books that I chose for this year are:
- Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins (I’ve read Anna and the French Kiss years ago, but I never read the other two companion books)
- Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens (this is one of those books that it seems like everyone has read and loved, but I’m not sure if I’ll like it or not)
- The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (I won this in a giveaway a while ago, but I keep putting off reading it because I know it will be a difficult topic to read about)
- Heartless by Marissa Meyer (I absolutely love The Lunar Chronicles by the same author, but I don’t really like Alice in Wonderland that much. This is a retelling of the Queen of Hearts, so I’m not sure if I’ll actually like it)
- A List of Cages by Robin Roe (this book talks about a really heavy topic, so I need to be in the right frame of mind to read it)
- The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah (this book would hit two goals for me!)
- The Midnight Library by Matt Haig (I bought this book at a thrift store because it’s so hyped up, but I haven’t been in the mood to read it yet)
- Normal People by Sally Rooney (I’m a little nervous to read this book because it has very polarizing reviews)
- The Switch by Beth O’Leary (I want to read several of her books, but this is one that I won in a giveaway that sounds good)
- Alex & Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz (this is the first book in a series that sounded good to me)
Reading Challenges
There are a few challenges besides the Ten on My TBR that I want to do this year. The first of those is the 12 Books by 12 Friends challenge
12 Books by 12 Friends
This is a challenge that I saw on Instagram. The creator of that challenge is @shadowbooker and she created a Instagram story template where you could ask your followers to suggest books for you to read throughout the year. The goal was 12 books from 12 friends, but I just took all of the suggestions that I received which ended up being 15 books by 12 different people.
After I read each book, I will write my rating underneath the book cover.
The books included in this challenge:
- Book Lovers by Emily Henry
- The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory
- Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane
- A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas
- Out of My League by Sarah Sutton
- Year of the Reaper by Makiia Lucier
- Sparks Like Stars by Nadia Hashimi
- Anxious People by Fredrik Backman
- Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse
- Searching for Sylvie Lee by Jean Kwok
- Keeping Lucy by T. Greenwood
- The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
- The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
- Deal with the Elf King by Elise Kova
- Vicious by V.E. Schwab
Romance Tropes & A to Z Challenges
These are the other two challenges that I created pages for in my 2022 book journal.
Romance Tropes Challenge
The romance tropes challenge is for me to read 10 different books with 10 different romance tropes in them.
There are a lot more tropes then just these, but these are ones that I enjoy reading and can see myself reading this year.
The tropes that I chose are:
- fake dating (my favorite!)
- forbidden romance
- only one bed
- workplace romance
- enemies to lovers
- best friend’s brother
- friends to lovers
- secret famous person
- second chance romance
- forced proximity
A to Z Challenge
This is a pretty straightforward challenge, but I want to read a book that starts with each letter in the alphabet. I looked at my list of books that I want to read, and I have at least one book for each letter of the alphabet except the letter Z. If you have any suggestions, comment down below!
2022 Book Journal Genres Legend
The last page that I created for my journal set up is a list of genres that are color-coded.
This journal has half circles at the edge of every page, so I use them to categorize my book reviews by genre. Each book I read throughout the year will get its own page review, and the genre for that book will be colored in on that page.
These are the only genres that I see myself reading this year.
